The Art of Privé: Ross Bleckner

Ethereal, emotional paintings will elevate the lobby

Born in 1949, renowned, contemporary American artist Ross Bleckner lives and works in New York City and emerged as a prominent artist during the 1980s.

Bleckner has long been associated with the Mary Boone Gallery in Chelsea, and his work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions, including a midcareer retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in 1995.

With a deeply poetic style, Bleckner applies recurring symbols often rendered with a blurred, glowing sense of light. His immersive, large-scale canvases often have a powerfully hypnotic effect on viewers, whether through the pure abstraction of stripes and dots, or more representational renderings of birds, flowers and urns. No matter the subject, the emotional impact of his work is always significant.

Privé developer, BH3, along with New York-based art curator, Kipton Cronkite, and Steven G interior designer, Julia Chi, commissioned Bleckner to create four original pieces, two for each lobby. Here, the artist will debut a new painting technique in which he pares back paint buildup from the canvas using bleach. The effect is luminous, spatial and celestial, and stands in contrast to his earlier work. Having four original Bleckner paintings on permanent display will be an artistic victory for the Privé community. Owners who enjoy Bleckner’s new painting style can also commission custom in-residence pieces.
